What makes a fish name funny?

Puns on swimming and water (Swim Shady, Fish and Chips, Bubbles McGee) and just plain absurd names both work well — fish are one of the easiest pets to go all-in on a joke name for.

Won't a silly name look out of place on a fancy or expensive fish?

Not really — plenty of owners like the contrast between a goofy name and an elegant-looking betta or koi. There's no dignity requirement here.

Funny Fish Names

Fish never learn their names, never respond to being called, and never have to live down an embarrassing one at the dog park — which makes them one of the easiest pets to name purely for a laugh. This page starts the generator with the Funny style already selected.

Every other vibe option below still works if the joke doesn't land the first time — regenerate as many times as you want, it's free.

How it works

How we generate names

Written fresh, every batch
Names are generated from what you pick — species, vibe, personality, your notes — not pulled from a fixed list.
No repeats
Each new batch skips every name you've already seen this visit, so “More like these” keeps finding new ones.
